The Korea Walking Federation is a national organization composed of twenty two local chapters all over the country and is forming more local chapters by spreading its walking movement and education for walking leaders throughout the nation. The Federation is a government-authorized non-profit foundation, which consists of 300-odd university professors, Gangwon Province councilmen, Wonju City councilmen, teachers of elementary and secondary schools, and many other volunteers, for promoting public health and low-carbon green growth. The Federation was originally founded under the name of the Organizing Committee of the Korea International Walking Festival in 1996 in order to organize and manage the Festival and raise funds for the Festival.

The Korea Walking Federation now consists of 20 members of presidium, 50 members of executive committee and 200 members of advisory committee, and they volunteer at the Federation. The secretariat of the Korea Walking Federation consists of 5 staff and 30 volunteers and they undertake all kinds of job related to walking events.

The Korea Walking Federation is the only national organization which holds the Korea Two Day Walk in every October, the National Two Days March, the Korea 100km Walking Challenge and the Korea China Goodwill Yalu River March/Dandong Yalujiang March. The Korea Walking Federation also sanctions a variety of walking events held by the local chapters. All walkers can submit their official walking records to the official website of the Korea Walking Federation and check them out by internet, too. Many kinds of the citation and/or certificate can be conferred on them according to their walking records.

The number of participants, hosted by the Korea Walking Federation, has accumulated over one million man-days. All volunteer-staff, who participated in the early days of Korea International Walking Festival, grow into fine walking leaders and promote many kinds of health promotion program, including walking events, all over the country.

The registered address of the Korea Walking Federation is Wonju, Korea. The Korea Walking Federation is fully supported by the City Council of Wonju, the City of Wonju, the Province of Gangwon, and the central government.

- To promote walking festivals for public health, and to pave the way of establishing a healthy society with sound bodies and minds by continuing to develop various walking festivals
- To provide alternatives about such social problems as health, interchange among neighbors, law observance, environmental protection and global warming prevention through the promotion of walking
- To spread out campaign for low-carbon green growth policy and environmental protection by walking
- To promote Korean history and culture to the outside world and friendship and mutual understanding among international members by the international walking event as genuinely sanctioned by the IML Walking Association

- To organize and manage such various walking festivals as the Korea Two Day Walk, the National Two Days March, the Korea 100km Walking Challenge, the Korea China Goodwill Yalu River March/Dandong Yalujiang March, the Wonju Well-being Walking Festivals, the Forest Road Well-Being Walking Festival, the Toddler Sports Walking Festival, the Nationwide Homeland Marching Pilgrimage

- To run the on-line walking record management system through the official website of the Korea Walking Federation
- To provide such health educational programs as walking leader certificate training, walking workshop and lectures on walking exercise
- To promote international walking exchange programs
- To furnish information about domestic and oversea walking events to help other walking organizations staff to manage many kinds of walking events
- To develop national health programs with the support of governmental projects
- To sanction a variety of walking events held by the local chapters of the Korea Walking Federation
- To authorize every walking route developed by the local chapters of the Korea Walking Federation
- To hold all lectures about public health supported by local governments and their public health service authorities and send official lecturers authorized by Korea Walking Federation
- To hold the walking leader certificate training workshops and issue the official walking leader certificates
- To develop the physical strength enhancement for adolescents with the support of local education offices
- To support the management of the Korea Walking Science Association
- To hold the Wonju IML International Walking Symposium every year with the Korea Walking Science Association
